Steven Stubblefield is a musician and vocalist  based in Eureka Springs, AR, widely recognized as the co-founder and frontman of the alternative country-rock band Starlings, TN. His musical journey was deeply influenced by diverse genres, from gospel hymns experienced in his Baptist minister father's church to the traditional folk recordings collected by Alan Lomax. Prior to Starlings, TN, Stubblefield contributed to the punk rock scene through his involvement with the Methadone Actors, laying the foundation for his distinctive and eclectic musical style.

In the late 1990s, Stubblefield formed Starlings, TN alongside Tim Bryan, previously of the Habitual Sex Offenders. The band's innovative sound merged traditional bluegrass and string instrumentation with psychedelic undertones, drawing comparisons to the Velvet Underground's John Cale period. His collaboration with renowned dulcimer virtuoso David Schnaufer inspired him to prominently feature the dulcimer, further defining the band's unique sonic identity.

Stubblefield faced a significant personal and professional challenge following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which severely damaged his home and resulted in the loss of crucial musical equipment and unreleased recordings. He channeled his energies into community recovery efforts, notably working with Samaritans Purse in Biloxi, Mississippi, and later with the American Red Cross in his hometown of Hattiesburg. Despite these setbacks, Stubblefield returned to his music career, releasing the critically acclaimed Starlings, TN album "How Dark It Is Before The Dawn" in 2009, demonstrating resilience and dedication.

Continuing his musical evolution after 2009, Stubblefield released "Under the Influence" in 2010, an album of covers highlighting the band's adaptability. In 2011, he relocated to Austin, Texas, reconnecting with original bandmate Tim Bryan, longtime friend and former Roadside Monuments guitarist Bryan Robison and bassist Mitchelll Vandenburg, sparking a new era for Starlings, TN. Their renewed collaboration culminated in the electrified 2013 album "All the Good Times," followed by "Preachin' to the Choir" in 2015, further cementing their status in the alt-country landscape. As of 2025, Stubblefield is actively recording fresh material under his own name, promising yet another exciting chapter in his enduring musical narrative.
